About John

John Craine is a director of photography who shoots in a naturalistic style; working between drama and documentary has meant the two disciplines inform each other. He loves to express meaning with camera, tying a line between character and audience, telling stories with elegance and clarity.

Blackbird, his first feature film, was nominated for a Scottish BAFTA and the Michael Powell Award for Best British Feature Film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2013 where it was named “Best of the Fest”. Since then he has shot three more features, Wake Me Up  in 2015, Etude #2 in 2019, and And Then Come The Nightjars which is due for release in 2022.

In addition to these features he has many second unit DoP credits.

John has worked in cinema and TV drama, documentary and has shot over 30 short films.
